About Viaje In 1990, Dan and I took our first backpacking trip together. We traveled with a group of 15 other teenagers along with three counselors to Alaska. The trip ignited our passion for backpacking and outdoor travel. In 1999, Dan had the opportunity (courtesy of his former employer) to travel to South America for an extended period of time. He emailed me to tell me of his plans: Just spoke to Elliot and he said you'd like to try South America for you next continent. Well, I'm going to beat you or meet you there. I am heading to Brazil for Carnaval. Then I'm going to learn Spanish fluently. Lots been happening. I'm excited to set out. What's new with you? An so, with that, Dan headed to Brazil for Carnaval. Throughout his six-month trip, he continued to update his friends and family of his trip. Initially only a few sentences, Dan's correspondance grew to full-length journal entries. Those journal entries became the centerpiece for this website. All of Dan's journal entries are included for your enjoyment.
